Maine-Fort Kent wins 2022 USCAA Women's Division I Championship
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Maine-Fort Kent’s Sage Stroud scored off a feed from Chelsea Thornburgh in the 30th minute and the Bengals made that stand as Maine-Fort Kent took a 1-0 win in the USCAA Women’s Division I National Championship Sunday afternoon.
Both teams had plenty of opportunities throughout the contest, with the Bengals outshooting Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse 14-12 in the game. Thornburgh served a corner kick in and Stroud found the back of the net with the feed to give Maine-Fort Kent the first tally.
Defensively, the Bengals rode the goalkeeping of Dominique Valadez who made four saves on the afternoon to keep the Bobcats at bay. Three of those saves came in the second half when Bryant & Stratton made several flurries, but couldn’t pull even.
Masego Nfandiso, Marina Nawa, Nicelle Drew and Maria Cordero were All-Tournament picks from Bryant & Stratton-Syracuse.
Stroud was named the MVP of the tournament and was joined on the All-Tournament team by Chelsea Thornburgh, Tarece Lawrence, Dominique Valadez and Naylea Beltran-Mendoza.
