UC Clermont Wins Back to Back Women's Soccer National Titles

Virginia Beach, VA – In a physical, back and forth contest between the Cougars of Cincinnati Clermont and the Mighty Oaks of SUNY ESF, the Cougars have emerged as National Champions. The Cougars entered today’s Championship game looking for their second consecutive National Championship title and they did exactly that.

 

#1 overall seeded Cincinnati Clermont came into the National Championship undefeated in pool play.  The secured victories over Penn State Brandywine and Southern Maine Community College to punch their ticket into the Championship game.  SUNY ESF was seeded #2 overall heading into the tournament.  They fought their way to victories to get a spot in the championship game against Warren Wilson and Johnson & Wales NC.    

 

In the championship game, the Cougars and Mighty Oaks had many chances on goal to put one in during the first half but did not finish on any opportunities.  The game went into half time with the score 0-0. Just eight minutes into the second half, Tara Claus from Cincinnati Clermont found the back of the net for the first goal of the match.  Just three minutes later, Claus found Rachel Dorrs for the second goal.  SUNY ESF would not go down without a fight, they had several good looks on goal but could not finish on these opportunities. Time would eventually run out and the Cougars from Cincinnati Clermont would be crowned as the 2019 USCAA Division II National Champions.
