USCAA Soccer National Championships - Day Two Recaps
Men's Soccer
#1 WVU Tech 7 - #8 University of Maine-Machias 0
The top-seeded WVU Tech Golden Bears defeated the eighth-seeded University of Maine Machias Clippers (7-0) to advance to the USCAA Men's Soccer National Championship semifinals. Forward Dennis Fuerst lead the way for the Golden Bears with a hat trick. Midfielder Juan Suarez had two assists for the 16-2-1 team from Montgomery, West Virginia.
WVU Tech will take on the fifth-seeded Lindenwood-Belleville on Friday at 6:15pm (EST) at Schoenbaum field. The Clippers will face off against the Warriors of Rochester College in the consolation bracket Friday, at 1:15pm at Schoenbaum field.
#2 University of Maine-Fort Kent 2 - #7 Washington Adventist University 0
The second-seeded University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals defeated the Shock of Washington Adventist University 2-0 to advance to the USCAA Men's Soccer National Championship semifinals. Ben Kluvers led the Bengals with two goals on two attempts. The first of Kluvers's goals came in the first half (23:51) on a penalty kick and the second coming on an assist from Kennard Brown in the 68th minute.
The University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals will play Berkeley College NY Friday, at 3:45pm (est.) at Schoenbaum field. Washington Adventist University will take on Briarcliffe College at 11:00am at Schoenbaum field in the consolation bracket.
#3 Briarcliffe College 0 - #6 Berkeley College (NY) 1
The sixth-seeded Berkeley College (NY) Knights upset the defending USCAA National Champions and third-seeded Briarcliffe College Bulldogs in penalty kicks. The hard fought Empire State matchup came down to the Knight's goalkeeper Camilo Montes. After ten penalty kicks the score was knotted up at three each when Montes scored the next penalty kick and saved the subsequent Briarcliffe attempt.
The Bulldogs were not shy in attacking the goal, launching 21 shots to Berkeley's 9 attempts. The Knights will face off against the second-seeded University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals Friday, at 3:45pm (est.) in the USCAA Men's Soccer National Championship semifinals.
#4 Rochester College 3 - #5 Lindenwood University-Belleville 5
Fifth-seeded Lindenwood University-Belleville upset #4 Rochester College 5-3, under the lights at Trace Fork Field. The matchup featured several lead changes with Rochester College taking a 2-1 lead into the halftime. Lindenwood University was finally able to take control of the match late in the second half when Cesar Acosta put the ball in the back of the net on a cross into the box from Jose Silva in the 67th minute to make the score 4-3. In a match that featured a combined 36 foul calls, Lindenwood University outshot Rochester 20-16.
Leading the way for Lindenwood University was Acosta with two goals and one assist. Also, helping Lindenwood University to victory was Patrick Reily who recorded a goal and an assist. #5 Lindenwood University matches up Friday, November 1 at 6:15 pm in the semifinals with the winner of tonight's quarterfinal matchup between #1 WVU Tech and #8 University of Maine-Machias. Rochester College will face the loser of that matchup in Friday's consolation bracket.
#9 Penn State University Brandywine 0 - #10 NHTI 1
The tenth-seeded NHTI Lynx defeated the ninth-seeded Penn State University Brandywine Lions 1-0 in the USCAA men's soccer consolation bracket. The (13-4-1) Lynx scored their lone goal in the 74th minute on an unassisted breakaway by striker Ramiro Osorio.
The Lions were more aggressive offensively tallying 23 total shots to NHTI's 15 attempts. Forward Bill Walleekendeh led Brandywine with eight total shots while midfielder Kyle Haas added five shots.
Women's Soccer
#1 University of Maine-Fort Kent 7 - #8 Penn College 0
In the second quarter inal match of the USCAA Women's Soccer National Championship at Trace Fork Field, #1 University of Maine-Fort Kent defeated #8 Penn College, 7-0. The Bengals gained control of the match early and never looked back. First-Team All-American, Katherine Ferland, contributed to all five first half goals with 2 goals and 3 assists. The Lady Bengals outshot Penn College 20 to 2 in the first half and 31 to 7 for the game.
Fort Kent now moves onto face #5 Alfred State College in the USCAA Women's Soccer Championship semifinals on Friday, November 1st at 3:45pm at Trace Fork Field. With the loss, Penn College will play in the consolation bracket on Friday, November 1st at 11:00am against SUNY-ESF.
#2 Daemen College 3 - #10 WVU Tech 3
The second-seeded Daemen College Lady Wildcats defeated tenth-seeded WVU Tech Lady Golden Bears 3-2 to advance to the USCAA Women's Soccer National Championship semifinals. The Lady Wildcats jumped out to an early lead on a Kacey Bougard goal in the 7th minute. WVU Tech responded with a goal by Sierrah Soto (14:50) and another by Cassie Basile (19:42) to take a 2-1 lead. Daemen's Samantha Engel evened the score at two on a pass from Kacey Bougard (24:43).
Megan Lipinoga scored what would be the game winning goal for the Lady Wildcats in the 65th minute. Daemen will face off against the sixth-seeded Albany College of Pharmacy Friday, at 6:15pm at Trace Fork field. The Lady Golden Bears will take on the third-seeded Florida College at Trace Fork Field at 1:15 in the consolation bracket.
#3 Florida College 2 - #6 Albany College of Pharmacy 3
In women's bracket quarterfinal action, #6 Albany College of Pharmacy defeated #3 Florida College 3-2. The Lady Panthers scored three first-half goals within a ten minute period to take a lead that they would hold throughout a tough second half that almost saw the Falcons tie the game several times late.
Albany College of Pharmacy was led by All-American Frances Ripepi (1 goal, 1 assist, 3 SOG), Kayli Smith (1 goal), Jen Bechard (1 goal), and All-American Sarah Cope (1 assist, 3 SOG). The Falcons received goals from Jessica Webb and All-American Lacey Millwee in the game.
The Lady Panthers will move on to face defending National Champion #2 Daemen College at Trace Fork Field at 6:15 PM on Friday. Florida College will take on #10 WVU Tech in a consolation game at 1:15 PM at Trace Fork Field on Friday.
#4 SUNY ESF 1 - #5 Alfred State College 4
In the first quarter final game of the USCAA Women's Soccer Championship, #5 Alfred State College defeated #4 SUNY ESF, 4-1. Alfred State's Kali Muhleisen scored twice in the first half to take the halftime lead. SUNY ESF got on the board in the 47th minute off of a penalty kick scored by Hannah Holmok to cut into the deficit but it would be their only goal of the match. Alfred State would add two more goals from Bridget Cuddihy and Kelly Stieve to reach the final score of 4-1.
#4 SUNY ESF is now in the consolation bracket and will face #8 Penn College on Friday November 1st at 11:00am at Trace Fork Field. #5 Alfred State College moves onto the semi-finals of the USCAA Women's Soccer Championships to match up with #1 University of Maine at Fort Kent on Friday November 1st at 3:45pm at Trace Fork Field.
#7 Paul Smith's College 0 - #9 University of Maine-Machias 5
In the first consolation game at Trace Fork Field, #9 University of Maine-Machias defeated #7 Paul Smith's College by a score of 5-0. The Clippers outshot the Bobcats 29-7 during the game.
Leading the way for the Clippers was Emma LeGallais with two goals and two assists. Also chipping in for the Clippers was Calyre Saunders with a goal and an assist. Goalkeepers, Asenath Brooks and Jenniger McGinn, combined to make 14 saves on 19 shots for the Bobcats.
University of Maine at Machias ends their championship run with a record of 1-1 and Paul Smith's College ends up 0-2 for the tournament.
