ON THE PITCH: The University of Maine-Fort Kent Lady Bengals have defended their title and are now USCAA Women's Soccer National Champions for the second consecutive year, defeating the Daemen College Lady Wildcats 2-0.
These USCAA rivals have faced each other in the USCAA National Championship game for the third consecutive year. After a scoreless first half, it was not until the 72nd minute that these perennial women's soccer powerhouses were able to break the deadlock. Defender Brianna Mills of the University of Maine-Fort Kent was given a free kick from 37-yards out and buried it in the top left corner of the net to put the Lady Bengals on the board.
The University of Maine-Fort Kent held Daemen College scoreless in this affair, behind the strong defense of Ariane Laberge Pelletier, Brianna Mills, Sam Carapellucci, and goalie Michelle Delgadillo.
2014 USCAA Player of the Year, and Tournament MVP Katherine Ferland added an insurance goal in the 85th minute off of a crossing pass from Forward Marie-Laurance Montagne.
