IN BRIEF: #9 University of Maine-Machias defeated #8 Warren Wilson College 2-0 in the first round of the USCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship.
ON THE FIELD: The University of Maine-Machias Lady Clippers received a goal from Sierra Tjelmeland eight minutes into the game and then turned the game over to its defense, which successfully thwarted multiple attempts from Warren Wilson College to score an equalizer. Clippers Keeper Aisling Farragher-Gemma tallied four saves in the game, facing a barrage of shots from the Warren Wilson Owls, who outshot University of Maine-Machias 10-3 in the game, including five on goal. Brooklynne Lewis added an insurance goal in the 75th minute to essentially put the game out of reach and ensure the Clippers advancement to the USCAA women’s soccer quarterfinals.
NEXT UP: University of Maine-Machias will face off against the top seeded team in the tournament, defending National Champion University of Maine-Fort Kent, at 11:30 AM on Thursday. Warren Wilson College will take on #7 Southern Maine Community College in consolation action at 9:30 AM on Thursday.

IN BRIEF: #10 Carlow defeats #7 Southern Maine CC 1-0 on the first day of the USCAA Soccer National Championship. Carlow now moves on to take on #2 Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
ON THE FIELD: Kristina Wallace scored the game winning goal in the 64th minute of play to advance Carlow University to the quarter-finals of this years’ tournament.
Carlow was awarded an indirect-free kick inside the penalty area after dangerous play was called by the officials. Stacey Sikora and Kristina Wallace stood over the ball, Sikora touched the ball followed by Wallace striking the ball into the roof of the net. This proved to be the deciding goal in the match. Each team was able to create several promising opportunities but were unable to convert anything in the run of play.
NEXT UP: Carlow moves on to the quarter-finals where they will face Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at 11:30 A.M. EST. Southern Maine CC will play tomorrow at 9:30 A.M. EST against tournament host Warren Wilson College.

IN BRIEF: A goal just ten seconds into the match proved to be the eventual game-winner as the SUNY Delhi Broncos defeated College Of St. Joseph’s Vermont Fighting Saints.
ON THE FIELD: SUNY Delhi came out quick and scored just ten seconds into the match by Trevor Holdridge to take an early 1-0 lead. They added another goal in the 79th minute by James Gardner.
Dominick Simpson and Patrick Diaz led the College of St. Joseph’s led the Fighting Saints with 3 shots each. Ryan Hennessy made eight saves while Julio Garcia made eleven saves for SUNY Delhi.
NEXT UP: SUNY Delhi moves on to face the top ranked team Bryant & Stratton Syracuse tomorrow at 2:00 P.M. The Fighting Saints from Vermont will take on the seventh seed NHTI tomorrow morning at 9:30 A.M.
#7 NHTI 1 - #10 Penn State Beaver 5
RECORDS: #7 NHTI 9-5-2 #10 Penn State Beaver – 13-4-1
LOCATION: 2015 USCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship, Asheville, North Carolina
IN BRIEF: #10 Penn State Beaver defeated #7 NHTI in the opening round of the USCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship.
ON THE FIELD: Penn State Beaver came out hot, putting up three unanswered goals in the first 20 minutes of the game from Alex Rectenwald, Marcus Smith, and Logan Ridgley. NHTI scored shortly after, in the 23rd minute off a strike from forward Kyle Haas. Marcus Smith added his second goal of the game with just one minute left on the clock in the first half. Anthony Voss added an insurance goal in the 64th minute of the second half, off an assist from Marcus Smith, as the Lions of Penn State Beaver cruised to a 5-1 victory. Penn State Beaver was led by forward Marcus Smith who scored two goals on three shots on goal and had one assist. Alex Rectenwald had two assists on top of his lone goal to start the game.
NEXT UP: Penn State Beaver will face off against the second seeded University of Maine-Fort Kent, at 2:00PM(EST) on Thursday. NHTI will take on College of St. Joseph’s Vermont in consolation action at 9:30 AM on Thursday, in a rematch of the Yankee Conference Championship game.
